Taos New Mexico Fly Fishing Guide Rita Adams, San Luis Valley
Rita Rose Adams
I’m the nut that fell not far from the tree. My father is Ed Adams Fly Fishing (.COM), a long standing guide service near Taos, New Mexico. I grew up on rivers, but I hated to fly fish when I was little; my earliest fishing memories are tantrums and tangles, tickle torture from my older brothers, and lots of mud.
No one’s more surprised than me at the way things have turned out. I can’t get enough of fly fishing now. I am obsessed, to the point where both my personal relationships and bank accounts suffer. There’s still plenty of mud, but my brothers no longer torture me, they call for fishing advice.
My father and I have guided together for the last thirteen years now. I still guide with him during peak season, but I spend my spring and fall seasons rowing a drift boat in Northwest Montana, where I am a licensed guide for Linehan Outfitting Company. I also lead trips to other parts of the world. I travel to fish every chance I get, and while I have been lucky enough to fish in many exotic locales, I still think the river in my backyard is one of the wildest places I’ve ever been.
Fishing is what I do. If I’m not on the water, I’m thinking about it. Every day I learn something new, and as a guide, I love sharing my knowledge and passion. My father taught me that a good guide’s mission is to facilitate a positive experience. Whether the fishing sucks or the tangles just keep coming, it’s about having fun.
My dad and I have over 35 years combined guiding experience. We love what we do. Whether you are new to the sport or an old hand, we have something for you.
I designed this site not only to promote our guide service and keep people informed but also to share some of my adventures. In the last few years I have taken to the road a lot. My essays and photos range from Redfish in Louisiana to Steelhead in Oregon, Bull trout in Montana to Bonefish in the Bahamas. I hope you enjoy, and come fish with us soon.
