It's been a busy few months here at Casa Blanca and Playa Blanca on Ascension and Espiritu Santo Bays, and the action never stops...
This is a Mayan ruin that rises out of the mangroves just ten minutes by boat from Playa Blanca. Named Tupac and built on a foundation of conch shells, it's beleived to have been a temple. These days it is home to iguanas. On a visit here last month, we climbed up to enjoy the view, and saw tarpon rolling. Tarpon fishing for us lately has been all about the surface flies, and I happened to have one rigged. I had one single fish attack the fly five times, and while setting the hook from that height proved beyond me, it was still pretty neat to see.
This is a permit I caught after Hurricane Rina, when the fish finally settled down. It was following a stingray, looking to eat everything the ray kicked up, including my kung foo crab. Great fun.
And this is a photo of our local Kitty, taken by our game cam late this August. It was hunting green turtles as they came up to lay their eggs by the light of the full moon. I saw this cat, or another just like it, up close and personal two weeks ago. I got a great look before it sauntered back into the jungle.
