Montana Fly Fishing GuideKootenai River-
The Kootenai is a beautiful, secluded river in the very northwestern extreme of Montana, 100 miles east of glacier National Park. This is big water country; throughout the summer, flows average 10,000 cubic feet/second. We fish the gin clear water from drift boats with Linehan Outfitting Company. The Kootenai is home to a spunky breed of Rainbow and West Slope Cutthroat as well as the endangered Bull Trout. Most fish average in the 12”-16” range, but the Kootenai is also home to some giants; the biggest trout of my life (so far) came from here.

We fish the Kootenai the last week in August through September for trips from 3-7 days for groups of four to eight people. Fishing the Kootenai in the fall is all about fishing dry flies from the comfort of a boat, without the crowds. It is a truly wild place with waters and woods full of life. It’s a great river for beginners to learn and still holds challenges for the most adept angler.

The Kootenai is an end of the road sort of place. Anglers fly into Kalispell or Spokane and rent a car to get there. Beautiful riverside lodging is available, as well as catering from a true gourmet chef. We are happy to help with any or all of your travel arrangements. Contact us for more info.

Montana Fly Fishing GuideClark Fork River
This river is a true Western Classic. The largest river by volume in the state, the Clark Fork is mainly a Cutthroat and Rainbow fishery, (plus the odd big brown) and they love large foam terrestrials, twitched. Fish here have plenty of heft and serious zip, and the river itself has gorgeous trout water. In its green miles are foam eddies that go on for days, riffles, runs, pockets and pools. The Clark Fork has it all.

We offer trips on the Clark Fork from the last week in August through October. There is plenty of lodging available; we recommend Quinn’s, a hot springs right on the river with great rooms, the best restaurant around, and their own boat ramp. You could be soaking in hot springs moments after you step off the boat, drink in hand. The nearest town is St. Regis, MT, which is served by Missoula, Spokane, or Kalispell airports. We are happy to help with your arrangements. Contact us for more info.

Missouri River Fly Fishing GuideMissouri River
The Missouri River is the tailwater of Lewis and Clark fame near Great Falls, MT. We fish this place at two different times of year: April-May and October-mid November. It is home to some behemoth trout, Rainbows and Browns both. I have been unhinged more than once on the Missouri, watching a pod of a dozen fish over twenty inches sipping olives. What more can I say, except that streamer fishing can also be really productive here?

The Missouri is famous for a reason, and peak season can see a staggering amount of traffic. That’s why we fish the Missouri in the spring and fall. Weather can be iffy this time of year, but it can just as easily be gorgeous, and we mostly have the river and its awesome fish to ourselves. We come prepared and we have fun.

The upsides of the Missouri’s renown are excellent lodging and dining opportunities, something we take full advantage of! This is a really fun trip. We can accommodate from 2-8 anglers. Contact us for more info.

Saltwater Fly Fishing GuideEvery winter we take at least one trip to fly fish the salt. This year we fished in Ascension Bay, Mexico and Great Inagua, Bahamas. These are both very different trips, each with their own appeal. Please inquire if you would like more info.

Ascension Bay, Mexico, styles itself the Permit capital of the world, and this may very well be true. Many anglers come here specifically to target this elusive and legendary fish, but in these vast waters you can also find Bonefish, Snook, and Tarpon. This fishery has been growing in renown and the area is home to several top rate lodges. This is an excellent trip to take if you are a beginner to salt water fishing. The Mayan guides we fish with here are some of the best in the world, fully capable of helping you with everything from salt water knots to your Double Haul. I caught my first Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon here, with their help. You can too! Contact us for more info.

The island of Great Inagua, Bahamas, is a very remote, unpressured fishery in the extreme south of the country. This trip is for the hardcore angler, or maybe just those who’d like to get away from it all and don’t need pampering. There is only one guide service on the island, and fishing here is a truly solitary experience. The fishing has to be seen to be believed. This year JP caught a 25lb Permit on our first day, and the Bonefish were huge. We stay in two bedroom apartment units right on the water, complete with kitchen and bath. We eat from our suitcases and supplement from the sea and the local store. Conch on the grill is a definite favorite! In some ways Inagua has ruined me for anyplace else; it’s the stuff of dreams. Check it out! Contact us for more info.

Patagonia Fly Fishing GuideI have travelled extensively throughout both Argentine and Chilean Patagonia over the last ten years. It is a vast world of natural wonders that can offer many different types of fly fishing experience. We tailor trips to suit your individual tastes; whether you’d like to be pampered at five-star lodges or prefer to rough it in the bush, chances are we’ve got something for you.
